It's the Last USDesmo event, EVER!

I have not seen this here but it is news that anyone who has been involved with or attended a Ducati event in the last 25+ years needs to know. Jim Calandro is shutting down the USDesmo club. Those who were around back in the 90’s will remember that Jim first gathered together a small group under the Ducati Owners Club of Canada as their southern rep. He did a fantastic job and was approached to form a US version which he did.

The club grew as did the number of rallies and track events. We had the pleasure of helping Jim promote USDesmo while he did the same for us when we were still members of DOCC. Often we shared the same pop-up tent or both space at events like the Indy MotoGP, Mid-Ohio Vintage days and latter Barber Vintage Festival. We kept renewing our USDesmo membership long after we left the failing DOCC which has devolved into just another track day group. USDesmo became the club that the DOCC should have always been!

Although the wife and I have stopped riding we did drive down to Murphy NC last fall for the best dang rally USDesmo does, Ducks Fly South. It was scheduled to happen for the last time this weekend. However, Hurricane Helene put a stop to that. Or did it?

NO! it did not. The Ducks Fly South Rally has been rescheduled for November 1-3, 2024. It will be the last official USDesmo event. If you are in the area, or can make it to Murphy, even for just one day please do so. Show Jim just how important his little club and the HUGE effort he has made over nearly three decades means to us, the Ducatisti.

Steve,

I am very touched by this.  It sent a chill down my spine.  Funny how we
stopped doing track days and DOCC stopped rallies and just does track
days.  This made me think about Dave Gooch.  I am not sure he knows what is
happening with the club and of course myself.  I will send him a note right
away.

untreatable prostate cancer and no one is stepping up to take over.  Some
talk about a person taking on one rally and maybe multiple people so more
than one and possibly all can be saved.  I still plan to ride the rallies,
just not run them formally.  Close friends will be invited but all the
planning and logistics are no longer in my game plan.

Pags,

No, it is metastatic and has spread to bones in several places.  3-5 years
average life expectancy.  Anyone interested in the details I have a
caringbridge site under Jim CalandrO.  The O is important because there is
one for James (Jim) CalandrA.  I am closing the club because it takes so
much of my time.  There are some who are looking at running a rally here
and there but it is all uncertain right now.  Family and riding are my top
priorities right now.  The time to plan and run a rally is more than most
understand and I will be free of that after 30 years.

Although the wife and I have stopped riding we did drive down to

Murphy NC last fall for the best dang rally USDesmo does, Ducks Fly South.
It was scheduled to happen for the last time this weekend. However,
Hurricane Helene put a stop to that. Or did it?

NO! it did not. The Ducks Fly South Rally has been rescheduled for

November 1-3, 2024. It will be the last official USDesmo event. If you are

Jim,

Even though I've never participated in a US Desmo event, I'm saddened by
this news. As a 25-year member of this list, I've often seen your name pop
up and always wanted to participate in Ducks Fly South, but unfortunately
from Texas it's quite the hike. Good luck, keep the rubber side down and I
hope you have the best years of your life ahead of you.

I am very touched by this.  It sent a chill down my spine.  Funny how
we stopped doing track days and DOCC stopped rallies and just does
track days.  This made me think about Dave Gooch.  I am not sure he
knows what is happening with the club and of course myself.  I will
