I love The Quail! I had planned to go this year and then my oldest nephew
decided to get married on the date.

When I reached my mid-50s, I realized I was only doing 1 big ride a year
and at that rate and if I rode till my mid-70s I would only have 20 more
big rides. After a lifetime of subordinating riding to family
responsibilities with an empty nest I decided to fix the situation. Built a
workshop and began collecting motorcycles so I'd have something to do as my
riding capacity declined with age and made plans for many rides.

I'm 65 now with 38 motorcycles. This year I've gone to or will go to 5
MotoGP rounds, HD Homecoming, Springfield Mile, and Barber Vintage. I've
ridden or will ride the Pyrenees, Thailand, Texas Hill Country, NorCal,
Ozarks, Kentucky and Driftless region. Collecting has resulted in me
discussing bikes I own with Kevin Scwantz, Cook Neilson and Pecco
Bagnaia's chief mechanic.

As I see friends pass away or leave motorcycling due to health problems,
I've adopted the attitude that the time for dreaming is over, it's now or
never for motorcycling.

Indeed!
Ray’s details… motivating!
Thanks for the inspiration.

Now, The Quail.
We generally have a bike display at the Motorsport Gathering.
2 years ago we had a Paul Smart backup race bike, among others.
Last year we had 2 Wayne Rainey race bikes, with him, but, yes, the August
event is primarily cars, albeit nice ones!
I’ve been going since 2016.
