Re: Was: Test. Now: Moped, with Ducati parts

I’m actually trying to find an oil that has that smell.

I use Motul 710 in the auto-injection and 800 in the Pre-mix and neither one hs that fragrance that is so polarizing.

🙂

The Malaguti has the Ducati CDI and has an oil injection system with a crank driven pump for the approximate 50:1 ratio.

It’s one more bit of mechanical complexity to investigate if something goes awry. I keep a small bottle of oil onboard, im case of that.

And not all 2-stroke oils are the same, as i found out, although I’m sure many of you know that.

The viscosity, and its ‘pumpability’ differ, and matter!

The Motron uses 40:1 pre-mix.

Both stock 49cc engines with CV drives.

One has simply a belt and the other, transfers to a chain for final drive.

The Malaguti will hit 50 on a flat and certainly on a downgrade, where as the Motron moped, is limited. Even just coasting. I’m still evaluating that.

Regardless, both elicit grins from onlookers, either in mockery or in sharing the simple joy.

There’s quite a following, cultish, even.

Last eve, i took the Malaguti to a local wine shop. Fitting.

The owner smiled and said it reminded him of his days in UK.. similarly.

I like them both.

That Gabbiano was fun. No match for the SR50s of the day, but it was great to tool around Rome on. Ahhh, the smell of flowers and two-stroke oil. ;-)

Same engine. A Minarellk V1. Oh, and before anyone calls NDC, Motori Minarelli used Ducati electrical components. The CDI, at least, on those models. Points on these older ones.

🙂

I’m looking for another.. to maybe “hot rod”.

They’re fun, yeah Garth?

I'm afraid I can't be of more help with the right oils. I use that same
Motul 710 in my Suzuki 250, but I know what you mean. It doesn't have that
same fragrance as the old days. Perhaps because it's synthetic?  Who knows.
