We're on a reminiscing trend, are we? Hopper, you got me going now with the
B-17 comment. My Dad was a private pilot here in north Jersey from'66 till
his death in'79. We flew out of Teterboro. We did some wild sh*t in those
Cessnas. He commanded a couple of minesweepers and destroyer escorts back in
the day. When I was around 12 yrs old ('68), we were going for a flight.
Before we left our house, he told me to fill up a bunch of small plastic
bags with flour- wouldn't explain why. So we take off from Teterboro. He had
his little "nest" of ships that he was in command of at the Brooklyn Navy
yard. We often flew low over the ships for fun- all the sailors would wave
to their CO. This time, we did some dive bombing. He buzzed the ships and I
dropped the bags of flour out the window onto the ships. They would make
little "poofs" as they hit the deck. Everyone was laughing on the ship.
Think about that today. We would probably be shot down. Pretty cool stuff
for a kid. We flew under the George Washington bridge as well. Fun, fun.

Darrin...all true, even left out some stories to keep the post "short"!
<LOL> But 'preciate the compliment!

The story about Dad buzzing Mom is true too. The B-17 was too big to do a
quick wingwag so he'd fly over and slap the rudder back and forth to make
the bird "wag" it's tail. Mom would be reading in the back yard and never
even look up! I was just talking with her in the front porch swing this
afternoon and told her what I'd sent out to the list and she "Hopper!" ed me
and laughed.

Even the Sangia wine is true...erp...Hopper
