So here's another thought...What was the first bike you threw a leg over?
(Besides minibikes). For me, it was a '72 CB550. A guy who worked at a gas
station I hung out at owned one. I boldly asked if I could take it for a
spin. Didn't have a bike license, never drove/rode anything with a clutch
before, and barely knew which way the shift pattern was. Got on the bike,
turned left out of the gas station, and promptly impaled the sidestand,
which I had not retracted, into the pavement. Real wheel hopped what felt
like a mile off the ground and came down with a crash. Fortunately I did not
fall, but it was not exactly a storybook first ride. Oh, youth!
