[Ducati] '78 900SS (was Re: Longest ,First, again)

Ah, that was a bike.
It was the '78 900SS that I had the honor to ride for 12 days in England and
Wales back in '93. It was so stable and had such a flat power band, that I
would be pulling a ton thinking I was going 50mph (Whooosh). You couldn't
flick it like a modern bike, but it went around medium and big radius bends
like it was on rails. And, for fun, you could watch the bevel gears spin
when it was idling (didn't try this while riding)
Sadly, it was the same '78 900SS that I wadded up on a dry stone wall in
Wales a year later. And I had just discovered the last third of the throttle
(had such a long throw that what seemed like a full twist would only get 2/3
throttle).
Every now and then a 900SS of that period comes up for sale, and I am sorely
tempted, but fortunately, I have a house to repair and pay for, and a garage
size that is currently limiting me to 2 bikes (plus the parts bike).
Besides, I think the next one should be a 996. Maybe then, I'll go back to
the other end of the line.
