[Ducati] Double Yellow Lines

In many eastern states, including PA where I live, passing on the double
yellow line is legal under certain conditions. These laws and conditions are
"on the books" resulting from the state originally and continually being an
agriculturally economic state. Since the invention of the automobile, cars have
need the opportunity to pass farm vehicles on back country roads. In PA, the
law for passing over the double yellow line can be found in sections 3303,
3305, 3306 and section 3307 of the PA Motor Vehicle Code, pages 187,188 and
189. The Code is lengthy so I will para- phrase the following:

1st - Passing is not allowed when approaching the crest of a hill or curve,
where the driver's view is obstructed (you can't see over or around).
2nd - Passing is not allowed within 100 feet of an intersection or rail Road
crossing.
3rd. Passing is not allowed within 100 feet of a bridge or tunnel.
4th - Passing is not allowed in a posted "No Passing" zone.

Otherwise, passing is allowed! Police do not want drivers to know this, for
obvious reasons. None of us want teenagers or drunks in Mini vans pulling a
move like this. However, bikes are much faster at making the pass, which makes
it a much safer move.

Please check your state Motor vehicle Code for your individual state
requirements. However, a "tell tail sign" is the following condition that we see all
over the East. A double yellow line and a "No Passing" sign. if you see this
condition, which is redundant, it is more than likely (but not absolutely) a
signal that the state that you are in does allow for passing on the left over
double yellow lines under certain conditions, similar to those above. I
know that Vermont also has these laws and conditions.

Warning! From personal experience on the road and in court on this issue,
the vast majority of local police officers do not know this aspect of their own
state's code. Therefore, they will write the ticket. On the other hand, the
State Police, without question, know their code. Due to this condition and
experience in court and in getting citations for this in the past, I have
copied and laminated the Sections of the PA code and I carry a copy in my car and
all of my bikes. I keep it with the registration papers. Since carrying the
copy of the Code with me, I have never received a ticket after being stopped.
