Corey,
I am of the same treatment mind as Garth. Just open it all the way up until the RPM gets to around 3k. Then slowly start backing it off until it hovers around 1500 (usually around :30 sec). Then ride off. After about :30 of riding return the fast idle to normal and you'll be okay.
This is my protocol. It works for me, if something better comes along, i'll probably go with it. But its a simple solution.

Corey,
If you start it with the fast idle all the way open (most possible fast idle
allowed), will it stay running when cold? If so, you're fine. When my bike
had the exact same configuration you speak of, it would die without opening
the fast idle up.
