Checking your rear view mirror is motorcycling 101.

Time for the MSF course dude.

If you aren't comfortable splitting..leave it to those who are. 

Being the "bigger asshole" is a no win situation. Your actions will not make
the other guy any less "rude"

people are carrying guns out there, why would you temp fate?
