I put an Odyssey 680 in my 996R and not one issue, great choice. You have to modify stock battery box some to fit it but so what, I use velcro belt to hold it in box. Starts every time no matter what. Dealer is right, the stock battery is a joke and Ducati should be kicked in the arse for that choice. Tender helps, 680 makes it a piece of cake.

The newer reg/rectifiers seem to be a bit better, they are not all the same. In
late 90s Ducati sourced em from the japanese if i am not mistaken. If you keep
battery properly charged and keep an eye on connectors and the like you might
never have a problem. Poor battery charging practice, poor connections and abuse
of system when starting are what deep fries reg/recifier. I would spend money on
better connections, cleaning up grounds, upgrading battery if you can, maybe
better starting battery wires. And wait on new reg rectifier. Think Ritzo is
still around with the new Company, it is not Electrex anymore. I think
Bombardier sp? bought them. Rich

Having read off and on about fried electrics on the list, I am thinking about
being pro active with an aftermarket regulator. Electrix seems to be the one
most recommended.? Does the 998s call for the same one as the 996? Anyone know
where to source one? Is it a straightforward installation? Is replacement
advisable in the absence of outright failure?
