[Ducati] 999 Timing Belt service?

Hi, I have a 2003 999 that only has 3500 miles on it.
Since I want them to change all the fluids, etc., my
dealer recommend a timing belt service also.

Does 999 really need timing belt replaced based on its
age ( 5 yrs old) ? or miles? The owner manual says the
next service after 1000km is 10,000 km (6,250 miles).
It seems kind of early to change timing belt.

Also the maintenance schedule is not clear in the
owner's manual.  Any info will be great.
