Barry,
A larger # of teeth in the front (counter sprocket) will give you Higher top speed and less acceleration. The same can be said for lower tooth count in the rear.
If you wish to increase your low end launch (quicker acceleration) you need to add teeth to the rear sprocket since you already have the 14 up front.
For example: My 03 ST4s came stock with a 38/15 (2.53:1) and top speed was 162 (indicated) but it took a long(ish) time to get there. I changed it to 40/14 (2.85:1) and now it accelerates significantly quicker but doesn't go as fast before hitting the rev limiter.
They say that dropping one tooth up front is close to adding 2 or 3 teeth to the rear. Just play with the numbers and see where you want to be. Be aware of chain length needed to fit larger sprockets.
Hope that helps,
Steve

I'm running a 14 tooth front sprocket and a 39 rear for my 916 which works
great for the club track I race at. But I'm always looking for better drive.
How would a 15 tooth front help, will this give me higher gearing?
