Whether you call it a sport-tourer, a touring sport bike, or a bloody beast,
it's always good to tour on a bike that you can bump start.
Ah, I remember it well. That hot Summer afternoon in Eastern Oregon, on day
4 of my round the West loop. The Alazzurra wouldn't start (its starter
selenoid was just starting to have the problem that only took me 10 or so
years to fix), so I unbungied all the gear I had strapped to the seat (no
panniers then), started pushing in the direction that was ever-so-slightly
downhill, bumped, and the puppy started on the first try. I was so happy. Of
course, I ran out of gas about 30 minutes later, but that's another story.
More recently, I would plan days on the Cagiva around stops that were at or
near the top of a hill. Was always able to start it, one way or another.
