I find regardless of age, and style of bike. I always develop a soreness
between the shoulder blades if I don't stop and rest once in a while.
Sometimes it's nice to pull into a quiet camp ground and take the gear off
and go for a walk. Do some stretches, lay back on top of the picnic table. (
hopefully not doze off, unless I need it ) , and then continue.
Mentally is the big one, that's why I like quiet places to rest, and enjoy
the country I'm in. Otherwise I find my depth perception and focus are not
as strong. For me every 100 kilometers ( 62 miles ) is time for a little
rest. Ya water and Gatorade good call. Sometimes the constant drone of doing
the same speed gives a sleepy effect. I play with the gears sometimes, or
where it is quiet and looks safe to do so, I let her rip. I tell ya that
brings in some new energy to the system. Nothing like playing a bit.
