I guess this goes without saying, but an 81 Silverwing is much different than your new 749. But I love the look of that 749 dark as well.

Just acquired a 2006 749Dark as my first Ducati. I couldn't resist it, it looked lovely!
I've ridden for (too) many years, starting in the '60s in the UK on Lambretta scooters.
I still have 3 of them that I'm restoring, so the Italian love affair continues!
Back in 1968, I took part in the Motogiro d'Italia on a Lambretta, riding for the British team. I also did the Milan-Taranto in 1965.
This year, I shall be taking part in the Motogiro d'Italia (only in the Touring Class) on a rented Ducati (40 years later! Yikes!).
Anyway, my question is, are there any special tips, hints or warnings for riding or maintenance you all have to help me acclimate to the 749?
I haven't ridden it yet as I am waiting to get it registered here in Virginia. Any day now.
I would also preferably like to live long enough to enjoy the Motogiro!
My last 'real' motorcycle was a 1981 Honda Silver Wing (500 V-twin) that I still have in a garage back in the UK. Rather a different animal.
Thanks!
