[Ducati] kickstarters

Don't know if I've told this story before so please forgive me if you have heard it allready. All this kickstarter talk reminded me of it. Back in the day, we rode spanish dirt bikes, Bultaco, Ossa, Montesa and so on. They had kickstarters on the left side. We're in the middle of the desert in southern Cali and my buddies Bultaco Lobido 100 dies. He gets off of the bike to kick start the thing and takes a stab at the lever. After several tries and much sweating and cursing, the thing backfires and shoves his right knee into the handlebar,,,,Ouch! So he is standing there masaging his knee and the thing is running. He swings his leg over the seat, pulls in the clutch, put's it in gear, pins the throttle and lets her rip,,,in reverse ! He ends up with the boys squashed against the tank and just falls over like a kid on a tricycle. We found out later that the point plate ( remember points?) had come loose and sat at TDC so when it backfired it rotated in reverse and ran. Two strokes are stupid and really don't care and will run in reverse.

I have other tales of the dreaded kickstarter but we need a beer and a place to bench race...;-}>
