[Ducati] 1098 question

You are spot no cedwards I have been road racing Ducati's for over 15
years and if you can't go fast on a 1098 stock with Termis and some
suspension setup due to the stock setting being a long way off the ball
park then a riding school may work for you or a smaller bike.I have done
a lot of laps around the race tracks here and this bike is so good that
at the last meeting where I think the setup works well for me I went out
in fast race class and done so very well on the bike that every body was
asking what I had done to it. I had road the bike to the meeting and
then home again.I think the only thing I will do now to make me faster
is a slipper clutch as the 1098 has great power which once you get it
setup right you can use all the power where the big jap bike cant most
of the time.

Well seeing as you can't get all but one decent answer in about 12
posts,
being a 1098S owner, I'll put my 3 cents worth in.
If it's performance, first get the suspension setup for your weight. The
jury's out on whether the Ohlins forks is that much better than the
stock
forks. I did replace my rear spring and that's noticeable.
Next do the exhaust, here you have a choice of slip-on's or a full
system,
($2500+). Does the bike need this, this really depends on you riding
ability
and desire for a bit more acceleration. I have the full Termi system and
love the sound, I don't know whether is really gave me anything because
I
broke the bike in with the stock exhaust and immediately put the Termi
system on at 1200 miles and didn't ride it for about 3 weeks. It sounds
great and the bike is way faster than my old R1 and 996. The Termi
exhaust
saves about 5lbs in weight. The full Akrapovic supposedly saves almost
12lbs.
A nice little mod is a taller windscreen.
After that, you start getting into the bling territory, you can add lots
of
carbon fiber and saves a few ounces in weight. Clutch covers and
rearsets
seem to be the next, again some of these can add a bit of crash
protection,
like the Woodcraft products, others just have nicer bling factor.
It's really tough to improve on this bike without spending stupid
amounts of
money as Ducati did a big makeover when they designed and built it.
