[Ducati] Clutch fluid darkening : I think I found a solution.

I have had a slave from Yoyodyne for around 5,000K with no darkening of
fluid. Track days included.

Is Ducati the only bike with an aluminum slave cylinder? I've had other
bikes that did not turn their clutch fluid as black as quickly, and they
also had, leaky, aluminum slave cylinders. More to it than that IMO.

  Cheers,

  Frank.

I'm totally impressed with all of the answers here on the list.
I just beg to differ with most.....
If you have purchased a high end slave cylinder with a anodised coated bore,
you will find your fluid is slow to turn color if not at all.
If your using a OEM slave you will actually see it darken with use. Since
the bore of the OEM slave is raw aluminum its not too much of stretch to see
the just how the slave's piston o-ring just might polish the bore. Has
anyone here on the list buffed out any aluminum? What color did the pad or
wheel you used turn after buffing? Black.

This is effectively what is happening inside of the bore of the OEM slave
cylinder. Stick your finger in the slave bore and rub it around for a minute
or so, you'll find the cause of the mysterious dark fluid......

Someone on the list did a spectrum analyst years ago of the fluid and found
aluminum in the fluid. Hummmmm?

If you think that the crud is leaking or finding a way in....then I'd assume
that the hydraulic fluid would find it's way out...then considering that the
pressure side would flush the crud out than rather drag it in....
