I guess the real question is what Mr. Wilson means when he says "best
upgrade". If sound is a priority, then exhaust comes first. But then, if
that's what he was going for then "exhaust" would have been the obvious
answer -- so obvious that he wouldn't have come to the list with the
question.
The e-mail stated that the bike already has a Sargent seat and undertail
eliminator. Judging from that I'd guess that Mr. Wilson's highest priority
is appearance and comfort. If that's the case, then I'd probably recommend
a bit taller windshield, risers, and adjustable rearsets for comfort, and
then exhaust and rims for appearance. Maybe other blingy-type stuff as
well, like steel braided brake and clutch lines, billet reservoirs, stuff
like that.
I was kind of responding from a "what would I do with a 1098" perspective.
For me, I'd do suspension first and then lighter rims if I had oodles of
money to spare. I'd probably add frame and bar sliders before going to the
track as well, and MAYBE mess with the gearing a bit -- though that'd more
likely come after visiting the track a couple of times. Exhaust and
PowerCommander would likely come later.
