[Ducati] RE: FCR for 900SS?

I've never seen any dyno numbers or other definitive data to indicate
that 39s are superior than '41s or vice versa. Further, since most
900SSs that have FCRs mounted are not stock, the comparison get's even
more murky. Are they being mated with engines with hi-comp pistons, 944
kit, 966 kit, ported heads, ST2 cams, spaghetti exhaust, DP 9001
ignition modules, green dynas and so on. I'd speculate the more modified
a engine, the more the '41s would make sense but that's all it'd be,
speculation.

I do know that the 41s have been sold in far greater quantities and make
a huge difference, including at lower RPMs. I spent a lot of time
getting my off idle to 1/8 throttle response perfect and could
understand why tuning that range with '39s might be easier but I'd like
to think I'd get there anyway. With my 944, ported heads setup, I'd
also figure to pick up more at the top end with the '41s but really
don't care if I don't.

If you're shopping for used, I'd go for the first set that crossed my
path either way and wouldn't bat an eye but given the availability,
that's likely to be a set of '41s.

Use the 39's....MUCH better than the 41's. I have heard about the
tuning notes using an eddy current dyno with a great deal of detailed
tuning, and the 39's are much better, velocity wise, power off bottom
and midrange. Confirm w/ Micah Shoemaker at AF1 in New Braunfels or at
the ApriliaForum.
