[Ducati] Recently bought a 996 S

I recently bought a 996 S
   
  There is a plate on it showing #55. I was hunting up information on this, and seemingly there were only 300 of these bikes made.. Is this true???? I was also told the first 65, are more desirable than the rest, as they were the first run.. Any truth in this rumor??
   
  Any more information would be greatly appreciated.
