to be particular, the last "916" motor was '98.  the only 916cc motor from 2000 is a ST4 motor, and the swingarm pivot system is in a different location, of a different style and the cases are different widths.  so be wary of that.  people do advertise ST4 and S4 motors as 916.

apart from that, for '95 to '98 (and '99 for the 748sps), the differences are pistons, crank, cylinders, heads (bare unit), valves (748 are longer) and gearbox (ratios).
