It's a great event however a history lesson would come in handy, it's not
the oldest. "Old Timers" will remember Joel Gonzales DIOC (Ducati International
Owners Club) which formed in the mid 70's and started the Daytona party as
an all Italian event back then. It's been a yearly event since then,
eventually becoming Ducati only when the Laverda and Guzzi clubs decided it was too
much work (it was!), Tony Foster dropped out and Ducati North America offered
to support the charity auction if the event offered one. It eventually became
Ducati Day Daytona and this year moved to Daytona Speedway and hosted 10,000
people. I actually mention this in the hopes of spurring a discussion from
anybody that's been around long enough to remember crazy Joel and the DIOC
days as well as some of those early parties. In my gang it was THE bikeweek
thing to do. Here's the link to this years event:

By the way, plans are already in motion for next year's DDD, we're staying
at the speedway!

Got this off the MV Agusta list and thought to pass it along. They say it's
the country's biggest Italian (motorcycle) Rally, if you like that sort of
thing :-)

On Sunday, September 9, the Italian Motorcycle Owners Club (IMOC)
will hold its 24th ANNUAL Rally at the Hamilton Rod & Gun Club in
Sturbridge, Massachusetts. After 24 consecutive years, the IMOC Rally
is now the oldest and longest-running all-Italian motorcycle event in
America. Normally, 300-400 Italian-made motorcycles and scooters are
on hand...with some 700-800 spectators.

The IMOC Rally has been featured on the SPEED TV "Corbin's Ride On"
Show, along with the New England Sports Network's (NESN) "The.Ride."

This year's featured machine is...any and all Moto Guzzi Singles.

Admission is still only $5 per person. A Commemorative Rally pin (for
the first 500 attendees) and door prize ticket included. Hours are
10:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Food service is available on-site, not to mention
various Flea Market vendors.

Proceeds in excess of expenses get donated to the Juvenile Diabetes
Research Foundation (JDRF).
