I never did measure to see if there was an increase in capacity. I always
figured it would be kind of marginal. If you are using a gravity feed system
as I was I'm assuming that you have a petcock that allows you to cut off the
flow of fuel? I was always advised to turn off the fuel when the bike wasn't
operating so that fuel didn't seep into the cylinders. Also don't make the
mistake of removing the fuel light sensor system when removing the fuel
pump. I never had a problem with the cruising range on my '96 SS. Using 4
gal. of fuel got me over 200 mi. on the highway and on uncongested
backroads. I took it (and another SS) from CT to CO/WY a couple times and
range was fine for me.
