[Ducati] 748 Opinions?

I had a lot of fun on a Speed triple at VIR a couple years back. Stock Bridgestone tires as well which did fine. I thought for what it was it was plenty of fun on the track, the Triumphs have stinking strong motors. Wife is eyeing the new Street Triple which may be similar in a lighter package. There were several turns where I almost got that guy on the 125, one I actually did on the S3,he went late and I went inside. So my opinion, though it does not have a lot of fancy bells and whistles it was a great bike for the 8k we paid for it new. Hey and I even like that green.

Oh, and I forgot: The speed trip is nice but it ain't no Ducati....:-)

It isn't even red.....or yellow......and you can't even hear the clutch, which we all know is dangerous because loud clutches save lives.

I have a 1050. It took a lot to make it track worthy. The front forks were a fairly large problem but I did make them work (gutted and replace internals) and have decent feel. A Penske shored up the rear, and I broke for the Arrow system. My first time on the track with it, after I got it dialed in fairly close, I established a nice rythym, but coming out of a 40 mph chicane, I wound that puppy on like I thought I was riding an inline 4-600 and I took it to the locks on the throttle. It spun that Metzler up pretty easy, even though I was down at 3000 RPM. Torque is a beautiful thing until it isn't.

On the street, canyons or sweepers, it is a fine ride and comfortable, and you don't have to row the box. On group rides, I have had a lot of swappers give it a big thumbs up, but some of them just liked to wheeley coming out of bends.....which is right in the trips fairway. Not that I would know. I'm not much on wheelies over about a 3" air gap.
