Brad, on the subject of ultra low sulfur diesel fuel, I've heard 10 to 15
percent vegetable oil cures lubricity problems. Also reduces carbon
emissions and is just a damn good idea, any experience with this on the
farm? I'd love to hear some first hand good news.
Alec, the container ship that hit the Bay Bridge probably holds a million
gallons of bunker fuel. We in the tanker business have double hulls, no oil
is in contact with the outer layer of steel. The same screw up would not
have spilled anything from our ships. I've spent many days in San Francisco
and hate to see the ecological damage, I'd love to see double hull
requirements applied to ships besides just tankers. There is a big
difference between bunker fuel and crude oil, extract all the lights ends
i.e. gas, diesel, lighter fluid, high vapor pressure stuff and whats left is
'asphaltic grades' road tar and the like. 'Bunker c' 'heavy fuel' more
officially "IFO 380" and below are the fuel of choice, nasty stuff that
doesn't evaporate. Sorry to see you get a dose of it.
