[Ducati] Not Much DC, Guzzi Stelvio

Ted,
The Multistrada is a great bike for longer haul, put a good number of miles
on the first one. But the extra weight of the Strada is a bit limiting for
some of the really tight roads with scattered gravel. So when my Hypermotard
arrives in Dec, I will look forward to getting some time on it, but already
have done things towards further weight reduction on it, and decided not to
go with any luggage system, but to just set up my soft bag stuff for long
trips, and am already contemplating some sort of handlebar mounted
windscreen for longer trips. From reviews I have read, a number of comments
come up about 2 hours being about the limit for riding on the seat. However
I take that with a grain of salt because as an old timer, I tend to ride
with a lot of weight on the footpegs, so seat comfort is less important. And
of course, the seat can be changed if needed. Gas tank capacity is the one
real problem I think, for longer trips in the west at least. Hopefully both
bike and I will be fit to travel some long distances this spring. After all,
its still not compleatly out of the question to ride it to Laguna next
year..........

I'd say the Stelvio looks like an Italian V-Strom. The front tire looks
like it might be 19" like the Strom. Should make a good touring bike that
will handle the odd dirt road. Whenever I get on a V-Strom it makes me want
to mount big saddle bags and strike off on a long trip. I still think my
Multistrada is the perfect all-round bike though. I recently bought a '03
Kawi Concours so I could travel with my wife but the 'strada is way more
comfortable for solo riding. When reading the test on the Hypermotard in
the recent Cycle World, I was a bit surprised at how practical they made it
sound. Maybe a little wind screen and some soft luggage would turn bike
that into an attractive option for the mad 3-day-weekend sport-touring loop.
Why carry around a bunch of extra weight if you don't really need it?
