>I remember their were talks about the next generation of superbikes before the 1098 came out that Ducati would always be a V-twin company. But maybe because of the high demand for the Desmocedici RR bike that maybe a V-4 would not be a bad idea. Maybe making the 1200cc superbike with stock components (i.e. high end internals and materials)is still a expensive adventure to remain at the top of the game. But a V-4 like the GP 800cc bike built with standard components (i.e. non highend materials and internals)may not be that expensive to produce and sale. But with many Ducati owners having purchased the exclusive $80K MotoGP Desmocedici RR replica bike, I do not see Ducati selling the SBK homolagation required number of bikes. Producing them is one thing but selling them is a different story. The 1098 sales were crazy and their was more demand than product. Now you have the Superbike coming 1098R at $40K and people who really want it and have a 1098 already may have sit on their 1098 til they sale it or take a lost to get the 1098R model. I have seen some tricolours up for sale already with the desire to acquire a 1098R or get on some dealers waiting list. V-4 may be the direction to go. Take advantage of the MotoGP technology. There is only so much you can transfer to a V-twin from a V-4 machine. To re cope all the experience and money from this adventure you may have to go to producing a V-4 or a line of V-4 bikes. But it can not be the current MotoGP bike due to the FIM rules. Maybe not a 800cc maybe a 600cc or 700cc. Either way you look at it, I am sure any bike Ducati produces is always more bike than the average Joe can handle. We all dream to be able to ride like a Rossi, Stoner, Capirossi or a Bayliss. I know I do. Maybe I can groom my son to be the next MotoGP champion. He is 6 now and I got 6 or 7 years to get him ready and off to Europe we go.
