As far as shipping a bunch of bikes overseas...  some people I know
through a traditional wooden boat group banded together and filled an
entire 40 foot shipping container to get their small boats from
California over to the Brest maritime festival in France.  You could do
something similar and fit a bunch of bikes in a 20 foot shipping
container.
