Yes. A few years ago, I did, in fact, that very thing. I bought a used, 
salvage titled,  '00 BMW K1200RS with only 5k on it. It was already 
repaired. I bought it from a guy in LA. I flew out, picked it up, and rode 
it back to NJ for an Iron Butt 3000 miles in 62 hours. I've since put 45,000 
miles on it. Good bike, with a bad pedigree.

Would I ever do it again? It depends on the bike.
