Well, this deal is a 1999 996S for 7000. Damage was cosmetic only, has been
inspected by Ducati dealer, and they didn't see any problems with it.

What do you think - get it? I don't plan on reselling it - just adding it
to my small collection of daily(ish) riders.

Thanks.

I've done a couple. Once it looked ok, supposedly professionally rebuilt.
I ended up with lots of little stuff to fix all the time and a couple big
things You can't tell how it was cared for before whatever problem totalled
it.
Hugely warped wheel, totally absolutely plugged cooling system. Little
stuff.

The other one was mechanically fine, just the fairing squashed. I got it for
my wife to learn on so the cosmetic thing was actually an advantage.
It's still in the family.

Would I do it again? Probably. I'd have to really do more research next
time.
Really have it looked over. And it would have to be a GOOD deal.
There are too many good used bikes out there.
