Alex and Kath,

 

Thanks for the added input. You know, I've found out one of the availability
issues for the 04 is that the steel silencer system is not available at all,
the titanium for that year is all you can get from Ducati. The good news is
the dealer I bought it from is willing to discount it substantially so it
isn't too much more than the original price for the steel system. I'll have
to think some more about the 50 versus 54MM part of it also, because that's
about 500 bucks right there. Kath, from what you're saying maybe that extra
4MM doesn't matter too much on a stock motor.  It would be nice if I could
see the two systems (installed) side by side.

The sump explanation is a help too. By the way, I'm not completely
illiterate, I did figure out the correct spelling of "exhaust".
