[Ducati] 999 Exhaust

Alex is right,

I was assuming you were gonna buy the complete DP kit.....if you choose to
just buy the pipes (headers, etc...) you will defiantely need to get a
power commander to adjust the A/F ratio. There are plenty of maps on
powercommander's website to help you do this. And it's really easy to do.
Also keep in mind that the 999/749 was designed with UNequal length and
internal diameter exhaust piping....The short story as to make the package
nice and neat, but technically to get similar results from an asymmetrical
exhaust that you would get from an equal-length exhaust kit.

SO, the maps in your current ECM basically fuel one cylinder more (like
about 20% around idle) to compensate that the pipes are NOT equal in length
or internal diameter. Please note that the unequal length and ID are also
neat tricks to "trick" the cylinders into working optimally when you use an
unequal design such as the 999/749. So the mapping and the pipe tricks work
together to give you a nice result.

Booring enough? SO, DON"T use your stock ECM (unless you use a power
commander and map it correctly) with your new pipes. If the new exhaust kit
is equal length, you will run one cylinder lean and the other rich....You'll
know right away something is wrong :O)

So whatever you do, either get the full kit with the newly mapped ECM for
your kit......OR the exhaust pipes and a power commander with the correct
mapping for your kit.

It's way easier than I explained, but I wanted to know the reasons why there
were so many kits out there and the design principals behind them.
Hopefully that info helped you as well.

Good luck and whatever the kit you choose....you'll love the new sound and
kick in the pants :O)

-Alex

Hi Roger
The 999 is one bike that consistently makes more horsepower with a bigger
exhaust. I have heard of 56 and 62mm systems on the 999. In any case be
prepared to do some fuel injection tuning or don't do it.
