That's what I did.  Bolted the old clutch plates to a length of plumbing pipe, attaching it at two points.  On one of those points you have to use a bunch of washers or a spacer so that the pipe comes to rest on the footpeg as you're torquing on the clutch hub nut.  (I can't recall but I think if you didn't use the washers whatever you were using as a lever would hit the cases.)

Anyway, it was easy to make and use.
