[Ducati] slipping and grinding sound from 1st gear

so the grinding sound i hear when pulling away in 1st gear only ('00 900 M 8k miles)
is the clutch not first gear? all the clutch fluids, cables, audjustments seem fine,
and bike runs fine otherwise.
