[Ducati] speaking of cross country trips

The time until my planned departure date of June 19 is rapidly passing. As I
make plans, I feel like there just isn't enough time to do all the things I need
to do to prepare, or make pre-trip arrangements. Of course, too much planning
takes the spontaneousness out of the trip; that idea of just getting on the bike
and heading off, letting the road bring it what it will. Where this applies to
me is the conflict between the spontaneousness (I can't spell spontenaeity) and
being on schedule (and covering a lot of miles in a finite amount of time). Some
of you have offered places to stay and/or stow the bike, and I thank you. Over
the next week or so, I'll be sending out and/or posting a timeline, with windows
of when I hope to be dropping in on people. There is also the conflict of
enjoying what the different areas have to offer (the Aquarium in Newport, OR,
for example), and getting down the road. I haven't done this before, so I don't
know how much sightseeing and local traveling
can happen in a 13-14 day trip that covers over 5,000 miles.
I appreciate the feedback I have gotten so far. Keep it coming.
I hope to have a modest website devoted to this trip., I've already started bugging Jules to help set this up, and could use other assistance and suggestions (except for writing a little HTML years ago, I'm not too savy). You know, daily uploads with that day's trip log, pictures, videos, interviews of ducatisti and anyone else who crosses my path. Cool idea, huh?
