Nope, not that common, sure sign of too tight chain. Also lots of grit gets back there, always good to clean the gunk off on occassion. Rich

Subject: [Ducati] Countershaft seal
I have a 99 ss that is leaking oil. I took it to a guy in town and he thinks it may be the countershaft sprocket seal. He also said usually there are 3 seals in there and that probably the best thing to do is to just replace all three and say we got the faulty one. But I was wondering how often this sort of thing happens? Are there 3 seals in there? Is it more common on Ducati's? Is it common? How long does it take to change? Could I do it myself? How long would it take someone who knows what they are doing to do it? Where can I find the seals other than a ducati shop? And any other pertinent information is also greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Aaron
