Mike, I do not need to defend either of these guys, but two very knowledgeable list members going back just a few years or is it decades Art? I did not note any know it all attitude there. That is my job or was til I got out of the way for someone to take my place. :) they raise some good points points that have been at the heart of Ducati FI tuning for some time. Myself drove from Virginia Beach, VA to Laconia NH when Bruce was around just for a custom FIM chip and it required more than just a chip to get my old 955SP runing right. needed a 5psi fuel pressure boost....to say either FIM chip or PC is gonna be spot on right out of the box is a symptom of lack of experience. Both know some time tuning is never wasted. I gave up after borrowing Claytons HHT years ago and long for the closed loop to take over. I would imagine between Art, Brad and my rookie self you are talking about at least 30 years of Ducti FI tuning amongst us, and I doubt any of us begins to consider
himself a know it all. Brad I suspect has some advantages being a bit closer to Duane, but FIMs downside has always been few real knowledgeable importers, once was only three across the country. if more today most likely have little experience doing what Duane does. He preaches and most fail to act for one reason or another. This stuff is left then to either the very into it home builder like Art or even me and the true mechanics like Brad who seems to be a wealth of knowledge too far removed from these United States. Because we all know that two different bikes never map the same.
Just ask a PC owner that tried to download a generic Map for his bike.
Or a FIM chip and a dyno shop that has the software to make changes to the
chip, here in the state of AZ I know of not one......

the beauty of the pc is that it allows for poorly setup bikes - you just get it custom mapped. and they've done an amazing job of marketing it - people buy them fully expecting to have to spend more to get it tuned. whereas duane used to have people saying "us$180 for a chip - that's expensive". wacky huh.
IF the cam timing and tps baseline and balance and idle mixture setting and fuel filter are all good, there's very little variation between required fuelling from bike to bike when fitting chips. amazingly little when you consider all the possible sources of error. but as i said above, people fit pc to get around having to do all that stuff because they can't get it done or can't be bothered or don't want to pay, etc. and that's why maps don't transfer so well between bikes. allegedly lots of mv dealers recommend pc and custom mapping because they can't manage to do the simple baseline stuff. which is pretty piss poor, but reality.
i'd just fit an ultimap chip, get the idle mixture set and go from there. but even the idle mixture bit seems to be too hard for many.
