Has it been sitting for a while? Gummy carbs from old gas can cause
problems. Was it sitting before you bought it?
How do those plugs look when you inspect them. Getting a decent spark from
them while they are out? (watch your fingers).
IS the choke working on and off as designed? Are the rubbers mounting the
carbs snug on both ends? (carb to mainfold). Cracked rubber?
Just a start...no pun intended.

Subject: [Ducati] 900 SS/FE starting & running problems?
Hi All,
I am having some starting and running problems with my 98 900 SS/FE (5k
miles) w/ jet kit (not sure which one), open air box and termis. It is
very, very hard to start (even using starter fluid) or stay running once
started. I have tried cleaning the carbs from the outside by spraying
cleaner down the venturies but this hasn't helped. When I purchased the
bike from the previous owner it was hard to start and it's just gotten
progressively worse over time. It also seems to run very rich. My
questions are as follows:
1. Any idea on what is causing this problem?
2. Any suggestions on how to fix it?
3. What main jet size do you recommend for my set up (open air box
and termis)?
Thank you for your input.
Cheers, Larry
