a friend of a friend just picked up a 2000 996 near LA for $9000. i
understand that the bike was super clean and had a termi full system. as an
owner of a 2001....i was surprised. the past few years the market has been
soft for sure.
ciao,
fred

Subject: [Ducati] FS: 996 (plus a question and rant)
This email is part "for-sale" post, part question and part rant, though not
necessarily in that order. I've decided to sell my '99 996 and was curious
what kind of money I can expect. I had a pretty good idea before the 1098
came out. But the new, low MSRP may have altered the value proposition a
bit.
The bike is a red biposto with around 2800 miles on it. I bought it from
the original owner three years ago. It is completely stock, unmolested and
came with rather large chicken-strips. I thought the guy was a bit of a dope
for buying a bike like this and only riding it 500 miles a year. Then I get
it and put 400 mile on in 3 years. My induction in the Iron-Butt Hall of
Fame has been indefinatly postponed.
The reason I'm selling it is I just don't have the time or the place to ride
it. (Here comes the rant part). I live in the NW suburbs of Chicago and find
with the suburban-sprawl accelerating, there is just no good place to ride
the bike. I'm sick of traffic, idiots with cell phones and tailgating SUVs.
I could go up north into Wisconsin, but spending 2 hours on that thing in
traffic to ride some marginal (and increasingly crowded) roads just isn't
enjoyable. I don't have the time for track days, so it is time to let the
bike go.
Anyone with insight or interest in the bike, please let me know.
Thanks,
Shaun C
