Yes, rear brake bleeding is a routine maintenance item on my 1999 996.
I knew I wasn't the only one.

Anyone notice the rear brakes are prone to getting air bubbles over a
short time and causing the brakes to go away, its not to big an issue
as we use the front mostly, but on occasion they do get used. I don't
see any evidence of leaking. Thanks.
