[Ducati] CBS MotoGP commentary....and a rant! =)

I just finished watching the Canadian GP on Fox. They were smart enough to
carry over the same team that does it on Speed (Fox owns Speed). It was
great coverage as always. CBS should consider using the same British team
that Speed does. Valentino Rossi is the biggest personality in MotoGP and
there wasn't even a shot of him with his helmet off, much less an interview.
If they want MotoGP to be successful in the US, they have to sell Rossi and
the few other personalities to the US public. You can take it from the
NASCRAP model, why was Dale Earnhart so popular? Because he was The
Intimidator.
Ciao,
Victor

The excitement rivaled golf announcing.....uninformed golf annoucing. It's
incredible how much a knowledgable, passionate announcer like Nick Harris
can add to an already exciting race. These guys make 200 mph riveting ballet
sound ho hum.
I love Schwantz...but he's just not a color commentator. If we even had
meaningful pre-and post coverage, like in Europe,...Schwantz is a guy who
should be on the ground talking with the racers and the teams, a la Peter
Windsor in F1, (although he did seem a little uncomfortable in what is
probably one of his first shots at it).
The US mainstream networks, and Speed, just don't get it. They always churn
the same nascar/tuner show mentality production...with uninformed,
bad-cliche ridden, sophmoric announcing. It's easy to understand Speed's
argument that they just don't pull the viewership with motorcycle racing.
Between their lazy, lame-at-best approach to production....and the snorefest
of AMA Sleeperbike....it's not hard to see why they don't draw in new fans?
If I weren't so into it...I wouldn't watch, they make it hard to. =)
With intelligent behind the scenes coverage, pre- and post-race festivities,
qualifying and Eurosport style production/announcing....I find it hard to
believe there's not a potential/meaningful audience here. Heck, Vs.,
(formerly OLN), has figured out how to make Euro bicycle racing/Tour de
France somewhat appealing to a US audience.
Ok. elitist rant over!
(for now!)
jeesh!! =)
cheers,
Fred
OK, its over now and I hope the next one is better. Some of the commercial
brakes were longer that Super Bowl commercials. Kevin was able to correct
the other guy a few times but at least I liked the results.
