[Ducati] Hand signal question

I think it's something recent but also catching on north of the border. Patting the top of your helmet with your left hand indicates a speed trap.  I suppose once the authorities catch on it will become another "contravention of Her Majesty's peace" to give warning, much like flicking headlights is now.>   My questions are: Can anyone tell me about this signal?  How come I’ve never seen it before?  How universal is it?  What is the actual proper form of the signal?>    >   Steve in Encinitas
