well gang the accident finally happened, I was cruising today to Big Sky along the Gallatin river canyon (SR 191) and was actually riding at a sane speed 80(+ -) when a 90ish chevy truck decided that he needed my half of the road also. He was drifting into my lane and I had no choice to to move way over on to the white line, when I did I hit a small patch of gravel and a flying I went. I think I rolled at least 6 times and slid about 50 feet on pavement and gravel. I jumped up and there was my bike in the ditch upside down and not looking real good either. The traffic stopped and some very nice people stopped to help and we got the bike turned over and the whole left side was one big scratch.
Well my intuition of wearing my draggin jeans went to hell because I did not wear them and yes my left leg by the knee has some good road rash. My ducati summer riding coat with the armor in the sleeves was worth the $300 as it proved to be worth its weight in gold as did my Arai helmet and Alpinestar gloves. I limped across the road to the river, took off my shoe and sock and stuck my bloody leg in the cold water, that was quite a joy.? No other injuries, thank God, but a few aches and pains, nothing an extra shot of Crown will not fix.
One of the guys riding with me has a shop in Bozeman, the Bike Shack, he went a got his truck and I actually started the duc and road her into the trailer. a quick assessment of the damage is, the left and front fairing, tail section, left side engine cover, front fender, tank and some odds and ends, actually lots of odds and ends. Totaled, close.
The MT hwy patrol got there finally and well the officer wanted to know about my bike, seems he has been wanting a duc for years, told him he could have mine for cheap. Got a ride to the local java shop in Bozeman and waited for a ride to Helena.
MY FRIENDS, wear your riding gear, always!!!!! and never take your riding or the other drivers for granted!!
