[Ducati] Fuel question (What grade?)

You know Brian people have the strangest ideas about octane rating. 
Basically it boils down to the fact that the higher the octane rating the 
less volitile the fuel is. SO if your running a high compression engine use 
the less volitile meaning you have to squeeze the mixture more to get it to 
burn. If you run low octane in a high compression engine it will more than 
likely detonate the mixture before it's time resulting in bad things to 
pistons and rod ends. A lower compression engine needs a fuel that will 
light easier as the mixture isn't squeezed as hard or tight. Any help here ?
