[Ducati] CBS Coverage- Today's MotoGP Race

My favorite was when Valentino Rossi crashed, with the camera cutting to him
trying to pick his bike up out of the gravel. The implications were huge:
the sport's greatest rider's 2007 title hopes quite likely dashed; Casey
Stoner's title hopes getting a huge boost; and Dani Pedrosa suddenly back in
the hunt, you would have thought you were watching CBS golf coverage and
some no-name journeyman just hit it into the bunker. "Ooooh, and Valentino
Rossi just found the sand outside Turn Five," he whispered in hushed tones.
I enjoy Schwantz's color commentary and the knowledge and experience he
brings to the broadcast. The problem is, Schwantz is a fairly low-key guy
(most world champs are not exactly very "excitable" by nature), and Medder's
really does sound like he's announcing golf. It's okay to have a low-key
play-by-play guy if the color guy is a "big" personality (think Pat
Summerall and John Madden in football), but when both are flat and monotone,
it really does suck the life out of the broadcast. I can get a bit weary of
Harris' and the WSBK guy's incessant screaming (can *everyone* really be a
"demon on the brakes"?), but there's gotta be a happy medium.
On the plus side, the CBS broadcast is reaching millions of US viewers who
would never watch MotoGP on Speed, or who do not get Speed.
