Dear Fellow Ducati Club Presidents,
As the president and founder of Desmohio it was with a heavy heart and
feeling of loss that we said goodbye to our friends on the Parts Unlimited Ducati
AMA Superbike team at the farewell party we threw for them at the final round
at Mid-Ohio last fall. The Desmohio members came together to show our
support and appreciation for the people who made the bikes go around the track by
taking the entire team to dinner. Although we were saddened that we would not
have a full time Ducati on the AMA circuit for the 2007 season, it was a
nice tribute for a team that worked very hard.
Later in the fall, we learned that Larry Pegram had approached Ducati North
America in order to put together a privateer effort for 2007, and we became
very excited. As details began to emerge, it became clear that Larry was
putting together a formidable program, and one that has the potential to be very
competitive and fast. We now have a bike to cheer for in 2007 on the US
National Championship Circuit!
Larry informed me that the project was a go a few weeks ago, but that he was
still seeking sponsorship. Given the grass roots nature of his program, and
after talking to the Desmohio members we committed $5,000 from member
donations to Pegram Ducati Racing. Larry is our home town racer, racing our
motorcycle, and it was a no brainer for our club.
Pegram Ducati Racing is coming together well, and Larry is testing for the
first time on 2/4 at Jennings and looking forward to the first race at
Daytona. Since his team is very much a privateer and grass roots effort, we thought
it would be unique idea if all of the clubs can come together and ask our
members if they would like to contribute to this cause. Keep in mind that
Larry is both the team manager and rider, and manages the whole team himself. It
is quite a job, and very much a David vs. Goliath effort when you consider
that he is racing against the Japanese manufacturers, all of whom have much
deeper pockets and many more resources available.
Wouldn’t it be great to see the DOC logo on the red bike and know that you
helped to make it go?
Desmohio is in and we wanted to share this opportunity with you.
Donations and all information are being collected at _www.pegramracing.com_
(http://www.pegramracing.com/) . Basic sponsorship is $100. For this you
will get a tee shirt that says “Official Sponsor” Pegram Ducati Racing, an
autographed poster and a chance to win some great prizes. Premium sponsorship can
be had for $500 and has its benefits which include pit privileges where you
and a guest can have lunch at the Pegram Racing Ducati hospitality in there
pits, see the truck, workings of the team at your chosen race, and a
certificate proclaiming you or your organization as an official team sponsor with a
photograph of the certificate being presented to you or your representative at
one of the 2007 AMA races.
Donations can be collected by each club and presented as a lump sum or
individual Pay Pal payments which will be tracked by Larry’s web site. The Ducati
Club that generates the largest donation will get their logo on the race
bikes and Larry will attend an event for your club. If you make individual
donation be sure to add your club name and that you are an official member during
your entry.
Now for the best part of this – why should you do it? Ducati North America
has donated a trip for two to the Red Bull US Moto GP race at Laguna Seca. It
will include three nights stay at Ducati official hotel, 2 VIP tickets for
the race including Red Bull hospitality with all meals included, two bike
passes for Ducati Island, and a lunch with Ducati North America CEO Michael Lock.
That is only the start as Pegram Racing Ducati sponsors are stepping up with
many more prizes including, A full Leo Vince system for any bike, Three
Scorpion Helmets, One case Motul Oil, Power stands front and rear for any bike,
One pair Sidi boots , Fieldsheer leather jacket of your choice, and many other
prizes to be added at Pegramracing.com .
All of the names of the people who contribute $100 will be given one ticket
and an additional ticket for each additional $100. Premium sponsors will have
six chances to win the bike. The drawing for Laguna Seca will be held at the
Miller Motorsports Park round of the AMA season in Utah one month prior to
the race. The remaining prizes will be drawn at the final round at Mid Ohio.
Larry has a very good chance of winning this series. The AMA has changed the
rules for 2007 to allow the 749 to be over bored to 850cc. This should give
the bike an advantage over even the factory Honda 600's. Larry also has a
contract with Dunlop this year to receive the same tires as the Honda and Yamaha
teams he will be racing.
This is our chance to show Italy that the U.S. clubs and our members care
about Ducati racing in the United States. This is our Chance to show the AMA
that we care about Ducati racing in AMA racing. This is our chance to be part
of the big picture and to top it all off, someone we know is getting a free
trip to The Moto GP race.
If you have any questions about this, or want more information, please do
not hesitate to call or email me at the above contact information.
Thanks, and see you at the races!
