[Ducati] 750SS Forks

Josh:

The forks from the 93 750SS will be Showa cartridge forks with no external
adjustments. They are the same forks that were on the early 900SS/CR. The
later CRs (like yours) came with Marzocchis. All of the 91-98
750SS/900SS/SP/SL/FE forks have the same external dimensions. If I recall,
the earlier forks had a smaller OD axle, but the forks are the same -- it's
just the captive nut in the left fork leg that's smaller, and that can be
easily changed.

The Showa forks from the 93 750SS have one big advantage over your
Marzocchis:  they can be re-valved.  The Marzocchis have sealed cartridges;
the only thing you can do to them is to change the springs and alter the oil
weight/level.

Considering that the non-adjustable Showa forks usually sell cheap (I also
have a set if you're looking), I think it's a great way to upgrade your 96
CR for the street. If you have them set-up (springs/valving) for your
weight/riding style, you really won't miss the external adjustments IMO.

If you're racing, or you want to use the same bike for commuting during the
week and track days on the weekend, then you might want to look into a set
of the externally adjustable Showas.  I have a set for sale as well;
however, they don't sell cheap ;-) You still will have to have them set-up
for you for optimum performance. You can also go down the path of grafting
Superbike forks on your SS (wait for it . . . I have a set for sale!), but
that's quite a bit more involved, with new or modified triple clamps
required, along with new bars, fender, speedo drive, axle, wheel bearings,
brake calipers, etc. And the Superbike forks still need to be revalved &
resprung to really work well.
