Scot Cloniger over yonder in Chattanooga....Is that ferry still there that is to the west of Chattanooga? We used to do the HW 41/I24 down out of Monteagle and ride into Chattanooga. There was an olde british bike shop we'd check out there. We'd use the ferry just for the fun of it. A bit out of the way but neat! I was living in Manchester at the time and working at the wind tunnels at AEDC. FANTASTIC riding country all over there. Miss the heck out of it. Beautiful countryside, hott beautiful lady folks and good whiskey! I was 11 miles from George Dickel and 26 miles from Jack Daniels.
Couse back then it was a Norton Commando or a BSA Rocket Three or a Triumph Trident that I was terrorizing the country with.

Some say can not adjust on newer models, could be, but seems to me you should still be able to check output from 3-87 degrees irregardless of what ECU you have or what it does with signal. The key is to set position. In past I have set em by reading at ECU or at TPS itself. At ECU can be tricky for someone without shop manual. But I doubt TPS is the issue, they do not move on their own, at best you could verify and maybe tweak position if it needed it, which is not likely unless it hasd been moved. Rich

The TPS is a voltage varying device. It has a supply voltage, generally .5
to 1.0 volts, and reference return back to the ECU.As far as the plugs are
concerned , I throw away the Champions and run NGK or ND u-tip or u-groove
in just about everything I own that is gas powered. One thing you might try
is to clean the plugs, let the bike warm up and go for a pass. When it
starts to cough, stop and pull the plug that is easiest to get to and look
to see if it's black and sooty or light and dry. At least you'll get an idea
if it's fuel or ignition related. Let us know what you find

I've had a '97 SS/SP and a '96 SS/SP and I put 30K mi. on each. Both have
hauled me and camping gear from CT to CO and WY. I've done 600-700 mi. days
on these bikes in absolute comfort. Probably the best all-around bike Ducati
ever made, IMHO. And, although I don't hate the PT SS, it was his design
that caused me to rush out and buy one of the last of the '97's.

hey all...Happy New Year...as soon as I shake this blasted cold!
Need to do some brain pickin'....tell me a website that has a parts list/parts book/parts breakdown for the '96 900SS series of Ducs! Power Sports Pro? site had a good listing of the bikes but they quit carrying the Ducs and took the list off. Seems a lot of 2000 plus models are listed and the olde bevelheads too,but the older between years are lacking.
Any sources anybody? It's a whole lot easier to tell the parts man what you want to get a price on for a particular part number than to have him tell you what he thinks you're wanting to know and then order the wrong part...ugh!!! And the nearest dealer is on the yonder side of Houston to my humble abode.
'preciate any help! Hopper

you can pull the opening rockers pins out far enough (10mm or so) to slide the rocker across and off the top of the shim and down out of the way to get the cams out, without pulling them all the way out. i don't remove the opening rockers because it's one of those little fiddly jobs that annoys me. once the RH opening rocker is out of the way the cam will come straight out. you need to turn it a little to let the closing lobes clear the opening rocker on the way out, but it's very easy.
we use a slidehammer to get the pins out.

power wise the desmoquattro are all valve restricted, and it costs so much to fix that it's a put off for most. plus it never increases the value of the bike except to very, very few. the light wheels will help more than many think with everything, but you're still 20hp short of you target with std heads and cams.
much better to sell.

Fellow Listers,
I hope everybody got out for at least a few miles yesterday!
It's a kind of tradition that I ride on New Years Day, regardless of the weather, as a matter of ceremony. It's kinda my way of welcoming in the New Year and setting the tone for the year to come. However, it's rare that I'm actually comfortable during my Jan. 1 jaunt! Weather in eastern Tennessee was in the lower 40s (Fahrenheit) with overcast skies, but no rain and very little chance of the wet stuff. I rode over the Suck (Suck Creek Mountain Road) and puttered around for a while, then headed to Taco Mac and hoisted a Woodpecker Amber to commemorate the day.
All in all, I'll consider the day a win....regardless of the fact that my team didn't make a bowl game. (It's hard to go to a bowl game with only two wins....basketball season, however, is another matter! GO HEELS!!!!!!)
Cheers, and Happy New Year to all,
Cloner

http://www.archmoto.com/rich/pics.html......whew, looks like Arch is moving or redoing site so good thing I saved the old link. I have tons more stuff and this is kind of old news, I think Arch put this on his site 5 years ago or actually longer. Not much of what you are doing is new to many of us on this list. Might also want to look at what Chris Kelly is doing on his site with tutorials and the like. I do not do this for a living though I sometimes think I should....but there aint much money in it. As much as I know about Ducatis and working on them...I think I am likely a better bicycle mechanic...meaning you want a perfect rebuild I am your man, vinatge Paramounts and Raleighs being a current specialty. I have rebuilt way more bicycles than motorcycles though I think the mindset transfers over very well...one grain of sand or strand of hair can be felt in a bicycle wheel bearing or BB. Take that approach to all your mechanics and you will do well. Next to that pumping
systems and all sorts of controls are my real work having spent over 25 years working in the water/wastewater utility field, a major part of that Operations and Maintenance but also lots of years involved in managing projects whether small or large, currently 40Mil CIP. So I have several hats. But working on motorcycles and bicycles is something I have done for a solid 30 years. Most of that on my own....meaning I have not had the luxury of tutelage under the wing of some expert. I have lerned from lots of folks, several here. This is a learning environment or can be. Lots of folks know more than me and I listen and learn. The result is in 13 or so years of Ducati ownership I have become close to the guy in his garage expert. I may not have every fancy tool but I have done equal work in many resepcts to the best of em out there. My high water mark was the only time I had work done in a shop... and I took bike to BCM one winter....quite a drive from Va Beach...tells you
