91-98 SS are recognized by many as one of best value and beatiful classic
Ducatis. Main problem with those bikes in std form is carburation, but once
fixed with some amount of time and money the bike is great. Ducati design
policy allow for availability of spares, and there is a healthy aftermarket
for performance parts that fit those bikes. Spare parts availability is, in
my opinion (IMO), the main issue in round cases bevel gear SS ownership.
Former 99-05 SS are fine bikes, and the use of fuel injection completely
erradicated the carburettion issues of the model they replaced, but IMO they
were not pretty enough. Maybe we will see in the near futur some new SS,
Sport Classic derived or so, which will fill the niche left by 91-98 SS,
where somehow the 99-05' missed the mark.
The same thing can be said about 749-999 series. I can not imagine this bike
in my garage, while I could easily purchase as many 916' or 1098' as my wife
and budget would allow to.
Best Regards/ Antonio
95' 900SS
